Cytopath is a diagnostic screening software for cervical cancer. It was
designed to reduce current error rates associated with manual screening of
cervical smears. It was also designed to assist laboratories that are having
recruitment difficulties in remote areas by allowing for the secure transfer of
electronic data and images.
Cytopath is currently capable of screening smears that are
prepared in a routine manner using the Papanicolaou stain, otherwise referred to as
conventional smears. The software provides a medical database system which allows
for the storage of the medical data associated with clinical smears. A backup system
is provided with the software. Patient, Physician, and Smear data can be catalogued and
revisited for a complete and accurate picture of a patient's history. All data is
managed by the Cytopath database server.
The software samples areas from smears entered into the system. These sampled areas are
analyzed to provide a computerized estimation of the diagnosis for that smear. This
diagnosis is stored along with a set of images from the sample that best
represents the automated diagnosis. All results are presented according to the globally
recognized Bethesda System and cross-referenced with the CIN System.
